In any of the situations you raised, the guy working at Disney or the doctor, they are doing their job. Should we thank them? Yes. Should we go out of our way to thank them, or be thankful, like saying " God, you've been so wonderful. Had it not been for you, I would not have had such a good time" or "If it were not for you, my son would be dead"? NO! I don't think so. It's merely a symbolic "Thank you". People say that as a courtesy. Do you really mean "I am thankful" every time you receive a service? I don't think so. It does not hurt anybody if we don't even say that. By the same token, American investments in China is doing nothing but their job, which is earning money. Should we thank them? Yes. Should we be thankful? No, we NEED NOT.
