Climate Change
This is another issue where both candidates hold similar positions. Both senators say they will take major steps to reduce carbon emissions and deal with climate change's effects. Both support a market-ba<x>sed cap-and-trade system for emissions. Both have set specific goals for reducing carbon emissions. Obama wants to reduce America's carbon emissions by 80% by 2050, the amount scientists say is necessary to combat climate change. McCain's plan calls for a 60% reduction by 2050. In addition, the candidates see green industry as an opportunity for the U.S. economy to grow. Both candidates also think the U.S. should work with other developed countries to provide incentives and assistance to developing countries to help them lower their carbon emissions. The one big difference: McCain would open offshore areas to drilling.
