china is big as a market and china is small as a market, depends what you are selling there.

i was in an industry selling professional stuff (not consumer good) and for a while i managed to sustain 25-35% national market share in the category, but when translate into dollar amount, it was really shy of some 3 mil usd on annual basis
and all my customers were state enterprises/agencies!

i was exclusively representing international small business except for one japanese manufacturer i accidentally ran into was a big one. their one contract of sales to jananese telecom was more than entire chinese national market sales for a year in that year in that category.

so if you look at short term, you will be short sighted. the beauty of chinese market is it has a long term potential. by the time gansu and qinghai becomes an industrial province,
you may not sell much each year, but you can hold on for much longer whereas in other industrial country markets it is already done and over with.

so the key questions is what are you targeting at and what is your strategy? what is your market position and what is your
product life cycle? (chinese manufacturers can catch up fast and roll out cheap replicas in no time in this price seller market...)

so with all the respect to whoever you are quoting, i think MS is probably better without him he he does not believe in what he was doing. the crazy bill is known for never take no for an answer and that was probably why he got where he is now. i personally would have given up long time ago...

this is just what i think based on my limited exposures to china market from where i see
