Huawei listed among the top world innovators
Telecommunication networks provider Huawei has been named one of the most innovative ICT companies in the world this year, ranking 5th behind giants Facebook, Amazon, Apple and Google, according to US-ba<x>sed monthly publication Fast Company.
The company topped the charts as a new entrant alongside companies such as Alcatel-Lucent and Nokia Siemens thanks to wining “a slew of lucrative, prestigious contracts good enough to double Huawei’s global market share”, wrote the publication.
“This achievement is attributed to our commitment to research and development throughout the globe and in Africa. We remain focused developing new telecommunications solutions that are advanced and cost-effective, thus bridging the digital divide that exists between rural and urban areas”, commented Chen Junhua, Vice President of Huawei Sub-Sahara Region.
Among Huawei’s positive contributions to the African continent, the most notable are the introduction of 3G technology in Africa, the development of end-to-end green solutions in Kenya, Uganda, South Africa and Congo and the Establishment of 6 training centers to foster skills transfer in Africa, located in Kenya, South Africa, Nigeria, Egypt, Tunisia and most recently Angola, opened in January.
Huawei is a global provider of next generation telecommunications networks, serving 45 of the world’s top 50 operators, along with over one billion users worldwide. Huawei operates over 22 joint innovation centers with its customers globally and 17 global research and developments (R&D) centers, with 2 R&D centers in Nigeria and South Africa. Also, Huawei has successfully deployed the world’s first LTE (long-term evolution) commercial network for TeliaSonera in Oslo, Norway.
