Fast food giant McDonald's has asked to meet authorities to discuss the mainland's order to vacate its premises in Beijing's business district.
In a statement, McDonald's said: "We have contacted the city Government of Beijing and asked for a meeting to discuss the matter as soon as possible."
McDonald's China Development Company in-house counsel Andrew Law said that the group had not decided whether or not to take legal action.
Beijing's city Government has asked McDonald's to leave its premises on the corner of Beijing's Wangfujing Street and the Changan Avenue.
McDonald's has said that an agreement was signed with Beijing which allows them to use the site two streets from the Tiananmen Square for 20 years.
The 28,000-square-foot site is McDonald's largest restaurant and has only been in operation for about two years.
The group has been asked to leave to make way for a commercial and residential complex named Oriental Plaza, which is planned by Li Ka-shing.
Last week, Mr Li rejected claims that he had used his connections in China to drive the fast food group out of their location.
He also said that the Beijing Government, not Cheung Kong, was responsible for clearing the site for the Oriental Plaza development.
Mr Li, however, refused to give details about the development or confirm whether Cheung Kong has signed a land-use agreement with Beijing for the site.
Beijing said that McDonald's would be allocated a site within the new complex which is scheduled for completion in about three years. McDonald's has seven branches in Beijing and plans to open 10 new outlets in 1995.
