in USA , Wi-Fi is more popular , in certain degree ,it slow down the deployment of Wireless Wan(broadband) , if I am not wrong ,some carrier level telecom giant in USA provide
such service in some testing market since last year , like Verizon , it offer such service in San Diego and DC area in 2003 , and plan to deploy service to more metro area this year
