If there is such a thing as "core competency", it holds only for a certain time.
The truth is: the so called core competency changes over time. The core competency of a tech startup is its technology. As the startup grows and matures and becomes divesified, its core competency become its marketing, management, operation and excution, it can be anything
Core competency can also be acquired, say for instances, by hiring good people or acquisition.
If something can be acquired and changed, should it still be called "core"?
