POSITION SUMMARY
The Head of the Systems Engineering and Operations provides technical leadership and management of the Systems Group, which is comprised of Systems Administrators/Engineers of varying experience levels. The Systems team is responsible for running the 24 x 7 infrastructure for the company’s payment platform. This individual will play a key role in leading his team in project planning, execution, and reporting. In addition, this individual will be responsible for the department operations. The ideal candidate has at least 8 years of technical experience implementing and managing solutions for 24 x 7 highly available and large server farms and production systems, and at least 3 years experience leading and managing team of system engineers. This individual should have the technical depth and breadth to understand project details while maintaining an ability to think strategically to make decisions to meet company objectives.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES
• Develop integrated solution designs for the server infrastructure with a focus on security, networking, performance, fault tolerance, and ease of management.
• Work closely with the internal organizations and customer support to ensure there is a quick turn around on escalated support tickets and that communication and process channels between Support and Systems are open and smooth.
• Responsible for defining solution architecture options and work with the external data center teams to implement the solutions.
• Review and continually improve on systems monitoring and alerting of all critical systems components.
• Plan and coordinate systems maintenances with multiple internal groups to ensure minimal impact to internal and external customers. Define scope, customer impacts, back out plans
• Collaborate with internal Software Engineering and Product Management groups on new product offerings and enhancements to existing products.
• Maintain, Prioritize, and justify list of projects
• Perform some managerial duties such as writing performance evaluations and reviewing them with employees, coordinate and running team meetings, etc.
• Actively mentor team members to help them progress in their careers and achieve their maximum potential
• Proactively recommend process, tool, and development methodology improvements. Ensure all processes and procedures, both internal to the team and interaction with other teams, are followed and work to improve whenever appropriate and necessary.
• Coordinate to provide technical guidance/assistance to the team when necessary.
• Proactively identify issues that are likely and provide resolutions before they become actual issues.
• Serve as a focal point for other department on status as required
• Appropriately escalate any issues/concerns that require immediate attention from other affected parties
• Identify, define, and coordinate the training needs of your team.
• Plan and execute a structure approach to enhancing the skill level and productivity levels of the team.
• Interact and coordinate with other teams for dependencies and ensure that there are no issues
KEY SELECTION CRITERIA
• B.S. or M.S. degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related discipline or equivalent extensive and related experience.
• Minimum 10 years administrating production systems in a mission critical, 24x7 environment.
• Minimum 5 years experience leading a team of Systems Administrators and/or Network Engineers.
• Expert knowledge of information systems, technology infrastructure and applications.
• Strong experience implementing security policies around user access, systems and network security, and intrusion detection.
• Practical experience with systems hardware, administration, and troubleshooting.
• Strong experience with scripting languages on UNIX.
• Strong experience with Oracle or MySQL databases.
• Strong ability to prioritize workload and shift attention among changing priorities.
• Strong support and service skills with internal organizations
• Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
• Ability to function under pressure in a highly dynamic environment.
• Proactive, results-oriented problem solver with tremendous attention to detail and the ability to meet aggressive deadlines
• Results-oriented, self-motivated team player and a strong leadership presence
• Outstanding quantitative/analytical skills and attention to detail
• Ability to communicate to all levels of the organization from senior management to engineers both internally and externally
