First of all, I am not a IC guy and I have not gotten any money beyond my own and my buddy’s pocket. So I am just speaking for what I thought and I did so far. I am in the software business and is using the out of shelf embedded hardware even it does not match to what I want 100% to go with the software . The reason for that is quite obvious: software only is not going to make any money in China now for the reason everybody knows. I am now in the final stage to get the products out to the market in China but in the early stage in finding investment. The products are not advanced in technology but rather simple and easy to use and is targeted to the mass market. The reason is simple: I have no intense to give up the control of the company cause I know for sure it will be ruined since most of the investors are interested ONLY in short term return. I would rather to manage it to survive to the point when I can attract investment without giving up the control of the company (I can only hope it happens before I run out of cash). I believe you should consider the same if you are in it for the long run. After all, how many opportunities you can get to have your idea materialized? Another thought: the tool market is quite hard to enter because of the low volume and strong support the customer expects. If you are interesting in embedded IC and ASIC, we may be able to work together.
