Personal oppinion only.
For IC design SW, the key point is not the coding. The key is how much process knowhow you can integrate into your products. Your customers will be IC design houses. They may not be very much good in litho, etch, and other IC fabrication processes. They may not understand very well device physics (maybe some basic knowledge). So they will rely on your SW to provide them guidelines. You really need someone with significant domain konwledge in semiconductor industry, particularly process. I have no idea about what market you are targeting. Whether leading edge or trailing edge IDMs or foundaries, you may still have to have a big picture about the trend in IC manufacturing, such as ITRS roadmap, and the possibility of using metal instead of poly gate (this is somehow in 5 year horizon, given the time for product development, this may not too far away from you).
