I have good friends who start their own enterprises, one in state, and another in ShenZhen. Just like techbull said, they know each other many years, they all have the similar technical background and similar financial capability (or at least they put the same amount of money into the company). They then share the ownership equally (like yahoo), and stick to it so they can spend all the energy to run the company, deal with VC and Professional Manager (a very tough issue but another story) etc. One group even did not looking into VC in order to have full control of the company and they are still doing so by using up their own savings.
