I guess quite a few more on this board who have been there and done that will agree with you too.
10-15 years ago, very few people within the Chinese circle in US are aware of works in investment banking. When I told friends what I do in 95, they look at me as if I'm from outer space.
600K bonus, even you get it, after tax it is around 350K. Hardly anything you can retire on.
Buy side offers a much more comfortable life st<x>yle, relatively speaking, and higher upside if you join a good firm.
The recruiting practice at top B-school for IB is a well oiled machine, a lot of people get dupped, willingly. There is a good book about that and it is very true.
At the end of day, you have to love and good at what you do in the IB world to be successful, also need to do it fast because there are plenty of young studs waiting just outside.
