Reply to the authors: It mainly deponds on your personality, in particular, the willingness of exposing yourself in brand new culture with an open mind.
The beginning of my American journey wasn’t full of fears but curiosity and excitement. Language is the key of arming myself to have things rapidly under my control. .With unsmooth English and limited knowledge about Americans, I learned and handled on my own. There are no secrets or shortcuts but practice, practice and practice.
In SunZi’s war strategy, success was formed by “timing, location and harmony”. So true: half effort, half luck. I have quite a few very good America friends.I haven't seen that much dark side of Americans. I am sure there are. Outsides , I got the bonus- the friendship. My buddies make me feel that there is no boundaries and obstecals between two culture. All is openness and understanding. LOL
One of them became one of my best lifelong friends. My best friends, Tiffany, a brilliant and successful Americanm woman, amazed by enormous commons between her and me via the plenty of causual and intellectual conversations. She was pleased by the fact that she always could find an understanding friend regardless the person's race, background,culture and age.
