Generally speaking when the prices are the same, you pick the end unit, which means you only share one wall with the only next-door neighbor. Preferrably you buy a so called duplix which means the whole building has only two families. I have seen tri-level ones which are common in big cities. Secondly you may look for the units on cul-de-sac (I tried to avoid using the dead end) which have less traffic. Hopefully there will be a fenced-in backyard (with wooden fence so you have privacy) with woods at the back.
How much per square footage you are paying for your condo or condom, this is a key question. Sometimes 3b with 2b is misleading; you need to ask how much is the sq. footage excluding the finished/non-finished ba<x>sement? then you can figure out whether it is a good deal or not. And how old is the roof unless the roof will be taken care of by the association. If this is the case, you have to pay higher monthly association fee. Conventionally the property tax for condo is relatively low but the monthly association fee could kill you. You may need to find out what the fee covers, water? sewage? trash pickup? outside maintenance? tv cable? dsl?
Buying a single family house normally is more expensive than a condo.
The way like the Fed lowed the interest rate yesterday, the 30-year mortgage rate will be dramatically reduced before long.. Time to shop before it is too late.
Sometimes you have to pull the trigger.
