It is somewhat true to equity or fixed income or hedue fund investments, but not necessarily to seminars in SF. I will never see seminars on China real estates in the midwest areas, but attend one on Las Vegas. One point of view is the demand for such is so huge that ordinary Joes need more info and education. No demand no seminar, more demands more seminars. The demand sometimes is created by the people outside of China. Let me give you three examples. In Shanghai I have seen more and more of my neighbors from America, European countries, Taiwan, Japan and HK. I met them in the "lifts" and at the hallways and lobbies. I attended a Taiwan business people party in Shanghai. Most of them have at least one place in Shanghai. All the newcomers are looking for places to buy. A friend of mine in midwest originally from Taiwan visited Shanghai, Hongzhou, Nanjing, Tianjing and Beijing in 10 days with his family. This was first he went there. He is looking for a villa in 闵行。He is professor in America for 26 years and his roots are in Taiwan. Out of curiosity I asked him why he is thinking of buying. He said all his friends back in Taiwan have homes in mainland. He is thinking retirement in mainland instead of Taiwan (he has mainland background). As long as there is no major war or revolution, this trend will continue.
More than three years ago when I was ready to buy the first one, over the phone, my parents had doubts because both of my parents' family real estates were either taken away or handed over to government "voluntorily." Overnight the previous landlords became tenants and had to pay government rents. Can you imagine that happened in the States?! I recalled telling them that I did't believe the history would repeat itself in that regard. I am crossing my fingers each day ever since.
