As to which way works best for you, it really depends on your relationship with the distributor and your evaluation about the distributor's credibility.
CAD and L/C are the most secured ways to get the payment in international business. However, term payment is the major application in the North American business practice today. Term payment can also mean the potential business risk. Therefore, the risk control is an important part while you are doing business.
