i like the thought in general about cashing in on "haiGui" as the idea of bridging between very up to date international
trend and chinese thing that hopefully we understand by "having been there"

sourcing/procurement should not be a prob as a procedure
the key is what and where to source? need a network inside
china with local trend/conscience analysis really up to date
because all of us here in USA are at least 1-2 years behind Europe in trend so we are really dorky for them

another question need to be addressed:
if online shopping, how many of domestic customers can make payment with credit card or debit card? do we know
how successful the plastic stuff already penetrated the market section we target?

logistics part is no prob for technical side of it: we can cover that with a good program

in short

upside of an online thing
no or low inventory on merchandise to cut down costs
we receive orders and turn around place with vendors and/or their distributors with good B2B portal intranet or conventional substitude

downside for online thing

it takes time for our targeted customers to develop their trust to go online shopping at our portal and it would not offer
the fun for them to shop in a real mall all dressed up to enjoy their capacity of being able to afford whatever is in trend
and their deseparate "xiao zi" for their entire consumption...

therefore i would recommend we franchise our domestic part
so we can
1) make money out of licensing out our distribution rights with the image that we know what is good and we provide our services in that to our qualified customers while we are really establishing channel sales facilitation without cost but make money

2) the franchised retail place model after internet cafe only much more fashionable (what starbuck coffee really sells: their coffee sucks for me but many go there do not care about coffee) for people to go in and satisfy their thing about xiao zi and make it really only affordable by white collar

3) those set up can be also hang out places for HaiGui to seek their memories from their days overseas...

4) now our merchandise sales become side products so we do not have to warry about it, while the haigui and white collar clients to these hang out places become the perfect srouce of info for us on what to supply...


for those who interested in this, let's put our heads together

here is my background

old MBA training
10 years of logistics service industry experiences
12 years of high tech industry (video/data/voice app over wireless service infrastructure)
tried VC and got them interested, only i needed 30 mil USD to start a new venture separate from what i already had, but each VC typically fund with 5 mil seed money

i had practiced system integration/turn key project vendor business in china market between 1990 and 2002

looking for team of partners to do a project and aim at scale economy that can produce good high profile entry back to china market. (last time i failed because i was operating business with my own money and my pocket was not deep enough. need to raise fund in public in money market this time)

this is only to sell image product in china market, we can also sell chinese image culture to usa/europe

need guys with experiences and connections in fund raising circle

need guys from inside china can operate franchise license sales and provide training/management for us

need guys from france, italy to provide trend info and provide really good procurement at well negotiated terms

need guys to operate supply chains inside china and europe for us

need a team on database report analysis to direct our sourcing strategy

need guys to operate our customers service cneters inside china

need guys to provide tech supports to establish and maintain a good B2B portal for vendors access and consumer internet portal for e-commerce (it does not sound like a prob for this circle of guys here)

basically we need to look at the big picture and allocate the actions. once the strategy is there, need to have teams to take away the actions and to implement rather than keep talking

we need people to tell us about their credentials so we can decide why who should be doing what. agree?

perhaps should get a small but dedicated web site up just for this project?
