As company grow bigger, it's normal its profit margin deteriote with time. It's hard to keep growing, but sometimes they must.
Let's not be carried way, Let's go back to the original topic, which is airline.
To grow airline market, you got to make people travel more. For airline industry as a whole, this is very hard. YOu have economy, terrisim against you. Such technologies as video conference make business people travel less. The only thing Airline can use is pricing. That doesn't always work. Overall, the odds are against air industry in increase its market. The market is shrinking, not growing.
Then you have such factors as pilot and flight attendent wages and oil price against your buttom line.
If you remember <2001: a space oddessy>, the shuttle in the movie is Pam Am. Today Pam Am, TWA etc. are long gone. United, AA, Delta all got kisses of bankruptcy.
That's why bigD says it's a shitty businss, I guess.
