1) helping him understand the culture and way of conducting business
2) consultancy in his contract/agreement negotiation with local vendors/partners
3) research in local buy-out opportunities
if you have lived outside China over 5 years or had never had any employment prior to your oversea endeavor, there isn't a whole lot you can help if your area of specialty is not in Marketing or Sales.
Software business is tough in China. Big ticket sales are mostly in public sector, where 'cozy' relationship with government officials is a must.
