After being a diver here for quite a long time. I think this may be a time for me to take a breath.
The recent events of anti Japanese demonstration and the latest CNN bias really showed just how naïve we are in playing the game of diplomacy and democracy. Being a nation as big as China is today, the government has every power to say “NO” to the Japan’s bit for permanent member and the textbooks issue gives the perfect excuse for doing so without asserting a range of issues. Asserting the nationalism emotion is not a good and necessary way to show national unity. Mutuality is what we lack of. Keep in mind, the one that has loudest voice in the crowd is not the one who yield but the one with strongest power. Some may take the example of Korean, but don’t forget that is probably the only way the Koreans can make their voice heard, and that is pretty much they can do. Did anyone ever see the CNN takes Korean’s demonstration as an issue? I didn’t.
As for the vote on CNN, that is meant to poll its American audients on their opinions, not a popularity contest by any means. Can we just learn to say NO whenever needed and not make a big issue out of it? After all, we have the power.
One more thing, don’t forget Chinese are still “communist country” and therefore don’t expect US or even EU to see us as one of them, we are not. As for Japan, even with its huge economical power, it is no more than a cash machine for the US until now that US are making it a distraction as it announced to support Japanese bit for UN permanent member.
