I had the same problem before and even after I came back. The high end talent market in China is under fierce competition. No rules !!!! Not all headhunters are professional.
If you are still in the US, you might have some phone conversation with headhunters. The interview expense reduces your chance greatly.
However, once you quit and come back, almost all employers try to give you a low pay since you don't have a job yet.
My suggestion is: ask yourself some questions before you come back
Do you really want to come back ? How much price do you pay? You are going to lose lots of things in the US to trade for something in China.
If you still want to come back after these questions, quit your job and come back. Don't dream to get a very good job in the very begining, but you will get one soon. There is a very good chinese word here 骑驴找马. It may not sound professional, but you have to. I wasted a period of time as I didn't want to ride on a donkey in the begining. while, no horse for you if you don't have a donkey. Employers are just stupid to some extend.
