but i am not sure i agree with you on where you are going with this
anything in any fields, we need to get aquainted with the tools available out there
then we need to look at the skills and techniques based on each tools we choose
and then there is always something above and beyond the above two
this is what people refer to as first must get into there, and then, for the good ones, must be able to come out of there, with the stuff to be able to twist to fit yourself
craft is good to have, but if you have nothing but the craft, then you are craftmanship kind of guy, nothing but the skill
arts and literature are in a special field one must rise above all the craftmanship, or it will stop there without any developments
if you look at the developments in the chinese calligraphy history, the historical movements reflected the cultural tastes of the times, the aethetic values of the particular group of people at particular stage of the chinese cultural history. all styles were the side products of that. all the rules were changed from time to time.
so you see kid, we need to learn the rules only to break them later. what i am trying to tell you is that i have looked at those rules and i am beyond that now!
ask any western trained visual artists why would they need to go to art schools if the only thing they do all their lives after school is trying to get out og the box they got themselves in at schools? they will tell you something very interesting...give it try, you will benefit from that
