We should be modest, but not to the point of inventing stories to demean ourselves.
The story of U.S. and China educators is not only false, but illogical.
1. The word "Homework" exists in English and is uttered by many school kids every day.
2. There is good discipline in U.S. schools. Have you heard about the metal detectors in US schools?
3. Many of the Nobel prize winners did not receive elementary education in the U.S.
Please. Stop humiliating the Chinese people please. I'm one of them. Humiliating the entire Chinese people not only hurts me, it hurts your too. You might think that "虚心使人进步,骄傲使人落后", but overrating foreign things and underestimating things in China has the following effects:
It affects your decision making. When you have to choose between a bad US school and a promising Chinese career, that's when the effect shows.
It affects your initial impression of people. A lot of times, cheators use your initial impression to rip you off.
It affects your business. Over-trusting, or over-relying on foreign business partners can damage your business.
It affects your image. When you tend to overrate foreign things, you demean your self. If you demean yourself, who is not going to demean you?
