There are tons of people doing that sort of thing and still live in the US, go figure. It's not a crime. FBI have their hands full handling terrorists and violent criminals, and banks see hundreds of thousands of cases like this every year, you think they'll pay much attention to you? It's not recommended, because you never know if you'll need to go back to US, and a good credit history could be useful. Don't be scared by those horror stories people tell, it won't show up on your criminal background check either.
