most of us, having been around here for too long, without knowing it, adapt the rules of games here along with the logics...we began to presume all parties follow the same rules
in fact, even in usa, big bucks a lot of time lead to political connections (i won't give you examples on this as i am not going to get myself in trouble for this)
now, about your deal in china, how much do you know about the rules of games there? here is an analogy
a few years way back, neither china nor usa had normalized the relationship with vietnam then, i went to saigon. stayed at the state guest house for a week and met with several
high ranking figures...i had nice food and good services in the complex of 6 french villas at the district 1.
met with also many business leaders went to china for school
and thus spoeaking chinese like chinese.
my trip was prepared by several people on both ends for 6 months...i did not come back with one dime of biz.
yesterday, i talked about this with a vietnamese. he said i am not sure what year you went, but if you watn to do biz there, make sure you offer hint to the leaders that you would make it worth whiel for them, and have separate talks outside the formal meetings. otherwise, they will sign on things, but with signals on their signatures only their buddies understood
as if that signature was a just a BS show, or it was something to execute with real efforts...
i did not know about this then, if i did i may not even have taken that trip...
the virtue of this is: make sure you know what you are getting yourself into before you get into it. it may or may not be your cup of tea. personally, i hate the grey areas, where many others enjoy practicing at...
