Though it's probably cliché, it's still best to be yourself, IMHO, from both sides of the table.
Of course everyone exaggerates in an interview and that's OK if you stretch a bit. But I’d not force myself into someone or something I’m not. Having said that, I’d still make sure I’m prepared for an interview, knowing what to say and what to ask.
I'd recommend a book if you're just starting your career in the US - "What Color Is Your Parachute?"
