I suggest you call/visit a few travel agencies to see if you like what they have to offer. There are a lot of those in Monterey Park, San Gabriel, etc, towns w/ a lot of Chinese. Let me know if you need contact numbers. Otherwise, visiting it by yourself is not a bad idea at all, esp. if you don't mind traveling alone. There are always so much to do and see there, I never get tired of that city. 
I won't be able to do anything tomorrow since I am heading out in the afternoon, but if you are still around on Friday, I will be back to LA. What kind of shopping are you interested? LA is a good place for that...
