Google uses something called "page ranking", i.e., the more a linking being clicked, the higher it will be put in the return list. When a link has been clicked more than others in the search results, it's more or less closer to the searching criteria. So the computer learnt that next time if the same or close criteria being entered, this link is more relevant. So you see, computer is gradually learning the way human thinks. But it's far from perfection, that's why you list (2) and (3)  . The idea may sound simple, but is actually a big step towards collaborating human intelligence in a very large (world wide) scale, which, I think, will be one of the next big things. There are some actions being taken in this field, for example, www.openmind.org. I would start a business in this if I had money and I could think of a good business model to make it profitable
