New China Homes is the holding company for majority-owned subsidiary Chingchu (Shanghai) Property Development, which develops planned residential communities for middle-income families in China. Taking advantage of China's nascent land-ownership reforms, the company is developing its first project, California Gardens, near Shanghai. When finished, the project will include more than 8,000 homes, several schools, a medical clinic, and retail shopping. New China Homes has already sold more than 2,300 homes. Hong Kong real estate company Far East Consortium China Investments owns more than 60% of New China Homes, which is considering buying out the rest of the company.
