You may not need the smartest people to conduct business credit investigation. And sometimes, the primitive methods are the most effective ones. Most of the time, all you need is a telephone, a list of people who has business tie with the company under investigation, and a list of questions to be answered. Calling up vendors/suppliers is a rather efficient way to find out the history and current status of a business' credit, which could be a strong indication of how you are going to be treated after you establish a business relationship with the company.
Also, I have to say, almost every company lies when they put together the tax returns for IRS. You just need a sharp eye to see the piece that doesn't fit in the whole picture.
 Just my 2 cents here.
Business credit investigation and evaluation is a very interesting topic..............
