Myrnah's story
There is a story that is very dear to the trainer's hearts, and it goes something like this...
Once upon a time there were two college rowing teams who took part each year in the state championships. One team was always successful and each year would take the trophy. They attributed their success to a coxswain named Myrna whose trademark was her pair of black and white deck shoes.
The losing team persuaded Myrna to coach them for a season. She worked them daily, teaching them the importance of teamwork and instilling in them the real desire to be the best... to win! They trained daily under Myrna's watchful eye and strived for a standard of excellence they had never reached before. That season, lo and behold, they won the state championship for the first time.
After the race, the team celebrated with a bottle of champagne, which they all signed to commemorate their victory.
Myrna called the new winners in to train the following day. She told them that one championship doesn't make them the best; they need to keep striving for future successes. Knowing she would be returning to her own team, Myrna placed her trademark black and white deck shoes in the boat as a reminder of the teams win and the need for their continued dedication.
Tonight, we the training team, will lead you to a victory. As Myrna did, I am leaving my deck shoes in the boat along with the champagne bottle, signed by all the trainers, as a reminder to you all that it wasn't us who made you winners but your own hard work and dedication.
Have a great race tonight and an even better opening week.
Teamwork is also represented by the rowboat. All team members need to work together to win the race! If one player rows out of time then the boat doesn't run smoothly and can't win the race. Myrna's shoes are placed inside the boat to remind you all of your successes during the opening of the restaurant and to encourage you to keep winning! Alongside Myrna's shoes there is an empty magnum of champagne and if you look closely you'll notice that the label is covered with signatures. These people were the trainers who travelled from far and wide to train up all the new employee's when the restaurant first opened. On opening day, the training team would have gathered in upper dining, opened the champagne to toast their successes and 'wet the baby's head', then all signed the bottle so they would always be a part of that restaurant. Another feature inside the boat is the cocktail neon logo, made famous when it was used as the logo for the Tom Cruise film of the same name. Other sports memorabilia around the restaurant reminds us of winning as well, e.g. tennis rackets, snowshoes etc. Being the best is what we are all about.
