VPN Connection Steps
When connecting to corporate services using a VPN, the following steps are taken:
1. Before making a connection to the corporate network, the user must have the correct VPN client software, and software to connect to the Internet installed on their machine. (e.g. Cisco VPN Dialer)
2. The user initiates a connection, either dial-up or via the Internet to the VPN Front End Processor (FEP), This establishes a PPP connection to the server.
3. If a dial-up connection has been initiated, the corporate server may prompt the user for a dial-back number.
4. The user will then be prompted for their VPN password, and a VPN tunnel is established.
5. The user is then connected to the corporate network and may be given access to the entire network, or just those services available to remote users.
