I came back from a Southeast Asia country in early 2003, and just like you, I kept looking for an ideal mid-size or small city to live. Before I live here, I had eight months in Fuzhou last year. But it’s too hot in summer. Now I’ve been living in Weihai for half a year.
As to your question—how much is enough for your settlement in Weihai. It depends varyingly on what the living standard you set. For example, in Weihai, one villa may cost you 1 million above if it locates at seaside or hillside. It also may cost you only 400K if it is at a poor location. But a large apartment in some communities is also a good choice. 300K to 500K is available. In my opinion, house 500K (including furniture and appliances) + 200K car +300K saving is a suitable arrangement. And Weihai has a slow life, most stores close at 6 PM, it’s different from other cities.
By the way, Xiamen’s Gu Langyu should be a heaven for you. Living there, as if the time goes back to one century ago.
