My limited knowledge:
If you are not staying at hotel, try sign up Optus mobile + broadband + landline. It is much cheaper as a package. Avoid using 'pay as you go'.
Mobile SIM cards are unlocked from smaller carriers so it is easy to get a mobile number without contract.
Brisbane bus services are top class.
You can find abundant Chinese food and produces in Sunnybank area, ~20minutes drive from downtown.
I believe NAB or Westpac ATM takes 'China Unionpay'. You may withdraw local currency.
Brisbane people are generally friendly. There are rednecks too however.
Here is an excerption of how people think if Australian(copied from internet)
For many who have never been to Australia, Australia reminds them of Kangaloo and koala. They thought one can see kangaloos in everyone's backyard. That's so mistaken. I've been living in Melbourne for 13 years. The only time I saw a kangaloo was in the zoo!
For many who has been to Australia once, Australia reminds them of "sexy men" or "sexy women"! From my readings and chats with foreigners, Australia is known for its "hot girls taking initiation" in the modern days, and men being rough in the old days.
For some people who don't know anything about modern Australia, Australia reminds them of criminals. They thought there are many criminals here. Nothing is further from the truth. Crime rate is very low in Australia. Welfare system is so good that stealing or robbing is completely unnecessary. Cheating is rare, for that level of IQ, one can get a certificate from TAFE and find a decent job. Personal record is monitored through out the whole country. A criminal cannot forge ID, change name and start over again in another state.
From readings, I read that intellectuals in the world think that Australia is a country that is lack of interest in intellectualism. My experience and observation shows that blue collar workers are better off in this country. Those continue to tertiary study can hardly keep their jobs (working longer hours with no overtime payment). Professionals are so busy at work and study but earn only 50%-100% more than blue collar workers. Tertiary study is all about job skills. Older Australians don't think there is a need to think about the meaning of life ("Life is all about food, beer, sex, friends, house, isn't it?"), or one should keep learning, or how we can contribute to the evolution of mankind.
For every single Asian I met around the world (who has never been to Australia), Australia reminds them of racism. For those who actually live in Australia, single mothers or unemployed Asians are very happy with Australia. Only those who finished universities complain: "If you are very good, you'll get a job in office. If you're really really good, you may have a chance moving into middle-level management. That's it. But compare with our country where we average people don't even have any chance, Australia is a better choice. But if you are too good and too embitious, Australia is not for you. Most young Asians don't stay in Australia. They always rise up to top management roles in a few years in other countries, and feel they live their lives to fullness.
"
Good luck
