in portfolio management, in order to maximize your kid’s value and growth potential, a balanced method shall be adopted ba<x>sed on his own personality/preference, your financial restraints, your/his study/play tolerance level, investment horizon, your/his expected result, peer performance and macro economic environment with variations from time to time to adjust to the predictable and unpredictable factors. Passive and aggressive management style shall be used interchangeably depending on the circumstances. Of course, it is forever easier said than done. Otherwise all the portfolios and their PMs could have been rated Five Star by Morningstar.
My view is that as long as you set a general guideline at high level, how you are going to implement it in details is up to you and your child. All roads lead to Rome. You will always reap the fruits of your seeds one way or another in the long run. Whether they are sweet, spicy or bitter remain to be savored in the future. Yet you yourself and your kid instead of someone else shall be the only judge as everyone has his own definition of tasty food.
