Charles Nenner of the Charles Nenner Research Institute is a technical analyst who looks at long-term cycles to make predictions about markets.
Among the cycles he observes are sun spots.
Nenner believes that the current sun-spot activity is creating an electro-magnetic effect that is making humans always look on the bright side of things. This optimistic outlook, among other factors, will help the S&P 500 test its recent highs over the next few months, Nenner says.
After that, though, look out below.
The favorable sun-spot activity will soon come to an end, and humans will begin to view the whole world as glass-half-empty. This, and other factors, such as a deflation crisis, will cause the Dow to plummet to 5,000.

‘Tis the season to spend, spend, spend and it looks like consumers are doing just that. But, can this momentum spur a sustainable recovery and how long before people in this country are put back to work?
Charles Nenner of the Charles Nenner Research Center has a positive outlook on our situation over the next few months. But beyond that his prediction is grim: he thinks we are bound to be the next Japan.
Nenner predicts a deflationary crisis that will cause the U.S. economy to “roll over” by mid-2011. He points to the Consumer Price Index, which is in “direct correlation” with Japan’s experience after their real estate bubble burst in 1989.
“[The] economy is like a big boat that moves for 200 years and you cannot change it by putting some money in or taking some money out of the system,” says Nenner, who as you can imagine, does not believe QE2 will have much of an effect.
In his estimation, the next time we are in a down cycle – which could be around the corner – we are destined for a major crisis.
