Although it lasted over two hours, the lunch was a very "short" one. About a dozen people showed up. We touched many topics of Haigui but didn't get the chance for detailed discussions. People came from a wide varity of industries, networking, wireless communications, accounting, finance, biotech, software etc. Several of us have their own business in both US and China. Following is a brief summary of what we talked about.
1. The role of Haigui:
Helping China's enterpises get into international markets. Starting up and running our own business. Seeking high level managerial positions within large companies.
2. Market demands and business models:
What China's VCs and enterprises are looking for? How to market and sell your products. What niches do you want to get in? system integration, outsourcing, (software and hardware) product manufacture, providing other services.
3. Finance and tax
VC's, bank loan, joint ventures ... How to negotiate your shares? How to protect your technologies? What are the tax regulations
4. Company structure and operation
Private own, partnership, US based vs China based. Where would be the best location of your companies. How to operate the companies if you want to remain in US.
Several of us have our own business and we share the experience we had. The concensus is we need to team up with people so that we get all the skill sets a successful company needs to drive the growth of the companies, or even to get funded from VCs. It's all about the team!
The meeting was really too short, people urge to have regular gatherings, both on weekdays and weekends. Oh, yeah, for those who are wondering, Ming's Villa serve excellent DimSum.
