Once to every man and nation, comes the moment to decide,
In the strife of truth with falsehood, for the good or evil side;
Some great cause, some great decision, offering each the bloom or blight,[each 是指的each side吗？这句话什么意思？] 一些伟大的使命，一些伟大的决定，和随之而来的困苦或繁荣
And the choice goes by forever, ’twixt that darkness and that light. [goes by怎讲？ 指choice一旦作了，就是永远的？机不可失？时不再来的意思吗？] 应该是“决定永远在黑暗和光明之间徘徊”，也就是说善恶一念间的意思。
Then to side with truth is noble, when we share her wretched crust,
Ere her cause bring fame and profit, and ’tis prosperous to be just;
[It is prosperous to be just怎么讲？] 正直公理必将伴随繁荣昌盛
Then it is the brave man chooses while the coward stands aside,
Till the multitude make virtue of the faith they had denied.
By the light of burning martyrs, Christ, Thy bleeding feet we track,
Toiling up new Calv’ries ever with the cross that turns not back;
[Toiling up .... 什么意思？] “努力建起新的十字架”，也就是为真理而殉道的意思。
New occasions teach new duties, time makes ancient good uncouth,
They must upward still and onward, who would keep abreast of truth.
Though the cause of evil prosper, yet the truth alone is strong;
Though her portion be the scaffold, and upon the throne be wrong;
Yet that scaffold sways the future, and behind the dim unknown,
Standeth God within the shadow, keeping watch above His own.
[above his own 指的是上帝自己的什么？]应该是指上帝的“权柄和威严”。
