both of them promised do sth. new and won the election easily. OK, maybe nothing new here, since every ahole promised something new. Third, they were both regarded most suitable man for the job at the time. Well, maybe not enough to convince you. 4th, Both of tried something new. We all know FDR's new deal, but FDR just expended Hoover's policy. O8 also promoted something new, like reforming financial system, medical system etc. Fifth, they both failed. Ok, ok, O8 did not fail yet, but he will. Why? because just like Hoover, he is not a nut job (unlike Bush), he is as smart as Hoover. Both of them want to do sth., but both of them can not jump outside box completely. Hoover treid new deal, but he did not go all the way, he increased tax and also cut the spending later on under the pressure from his party. O8 also did not show me " I don't give a fcuk" attitude. So far, his financial policy does not change much from Bush. The people he used to fix the problem has everything to do to cause the this mess at the 1st place. The financial reform is a pure joke so far. The bottom line is they are both nice people, smart and nice. Nevertheless, facing the crisis, nice and smart is not enough, since politics is always dirty. In this sense, FDR is better, he knew the game and he changed his failed policy (his election promise was cut spending) faster than anyone, and he knew how to let the dogs fight, so he can get the bone.
OK, need more? We sure can discuss the similarity of Hoover's policy and O8's. BTW, "Too big to fail" started from Hoover. Under O8, big is even bigger.
