the BPM's article doesnot say that other south European or east european Americans don't have belongings to their original countries ;what he says is a ABC is more likely to be distinguished from the white men group. European Americans of the defferent origins have their defferent value and culture, but compared to chinese,japanese, or blacks, they are much the same people. Just as the western people often mix up chinese, japanese,vietnamese. it is a fact that european Americans feel more at home than chinese Americans do.
What you say of the Italian Americans story in WW SECOND is just a counter proof of your commments. Italians being sent to Pacific front, while Japanese Americans being put into contrentration camp and not released until the end of the war. Why German and Italian Americans were trusted while Japanese Americans were discrimanated? The answer is written on their faces. Physical appearance makes big difference, that is the answer!
Namely, US is a home to all the immigrants, but believe it or not, it is the europeans' country essencially.
If I were George Bush, Jr, I would have done what he did exactly, because I would feel US is my first country, my own country;why bother to care about my original country Germany.
Just like my original place is shanxi, but I grow up in jiangsu and see myself as jiangsu local, and people around also see me as a local. If there is a war between shanxi and jiangsu, i would join jiangsu against my original shanxi. There is nothing strang to it.
But as a chinese in America, no matter how many generation ABC you are, your face always tell others you are a chinese. ABC man is more of the case than ABC woman.
