I'm in Australia now. The normal salary for a postdoc is around A$50k + (10-17)% superannuation. Therefore, his salary in Oz is RMB300k for sure! You know, my supervisor, a FTSE and top professor in our University, only earns around A$200k/y.
But do you know what is the meaning of A$50k in Melbourne? It means nothing! He can't even buy a 2bd apartment in a good suburb.
Hence, the reason is clear. The job in Guangzhou is much better than a postdoc in Australia without any future.
