Key DOW Levels for 6/19

New Lows..
Dow reaches new lows within bearish downtrend, losses 131 points.
From prior commentary, "...The Dow closed the day at the lows of the session after getting a very bearish downside reversal off the major upper trend line. Look for continued overall weakness, especially if support is crossed at 12,075..."
The Dow opened the day with big selling this morning, as the index dropped through the 12,100 level and eventually peeked below 12,000 for the first time since March. The index closed the day near the lows of the session with a loss of 131 points and may see a little more weakness before another bounce back toward the upper trend line is seen.
The 60 Minute Chart shows the Dow has trended steadily lower beneath the major upper trend line, which has paced the index lower since May. The current cycle of selling could see the Dow reach to as low as 11,925 before another bounce within the downtrend is seen. Strength off lows will likely lead to another test of the upper line at 12,200, but continued overall weakness is likely until this line can be crossed and held.
Short Term Dow
The Dow ended the day within the boundaries of a tight consolidation that spans from 11,980 to 12,100, seen in the 5 Minute Chart. Watch this range for early direction tomorrow.
Medium Term Dow
In the medium term, we entered the market Short at 12,050 today, but stopped out with a 25 point loss. We later re-entered Shorts at 12,014, but the trade also faltered.
We are out of the market and will watch 12,350 up, while holding off on Shorts at this time. We will use 25 point stops.
NASDAQ & S&P
The NASDAQ and S&P each dropped steadily to begin the day and eventually closed within bearish continuation patterns. Watch these patterns tomorrow.
Summary
The Dow ended the day near the lows of the session and closed within the boundaries of a tight consolidation. More near-term weakness is likely within the current overall downtrend, but we could see a bullish bounce soon that leads us back toward the 12,200 zone.
