You can see the biggest difference in their daughter. Who was transformed from a shy "ugly duck" to a beautiful indepedent medical doctor, thanks to the environment she was put in -- NYU. I have no doubt her father made it possible. How many 18-year old kids from China can go to NYU to become a medical doctor?
The ending is good. It's a love story. A father who worked hard to provide for his family. He loved his family the only way he knew; by working in the bottom of society in Japan.
I'm amazed by the critical posts directed toward the father. Why can we just accept and appreciate the unconditional love that was manifested by the story? Why even the most innocent love story could be turned into such a cynical discussion. Sigh....
