1)can we survive from it? You mean you and me?? Of course we will survive from it. We may even benefit from it. 
2)can the Fed rate cut saves it? Yes, I do believe the rate cut will fundemantally change and help the situation;
3)what is your take? My take is that the subprime crisis is a very very small and isolated sector of a huge financial universe. I will call it a "tempest in a teapot." Many financial organizations have already shut down their subprime operations such as Lehman Brothers, Capital One, Citi Group, and many many banks. The whole industry will be gone, cut off, deleted, and terminated. The relatively less better-off folks or so-called financially challenged households have to go back to the option of rental, unless eventually the value of the housing in the States will become more affordable, which I really doubt, or the minimum wages will be doubled or tripled in the foreseeable future, which will hurt the business in general. Overall, we have a relatively rich America with a solid middle-class majority. We shall be ok!!!
I am cautiously optimistic for the short and mid term and passionately upbeat for the long term. Please read my lips. 
Therefore, I will take every market setback and correction as a buying opportunity for blue chip company stocks. However, everything above-mentioned will be off should something dramatic happen either at home or abroad, such as wars, oil crisis, natural disasters, terrorist attacks, which I call Force Majeure.
