The recent sub-prime crisis and concern about U.S economy slow down really put pressure on the investors.
Not like the previous crisis, this time it starts from the financial industry itself, i.e. the sub-prime --> credit/fix income market. A lot of layoff has been made, though hasn't spread to China/HK market yet.
In terms of your capability, if you have covered China companies, then you should be all right, otherwise, would be tough.
Feb and Mar is the bonus season, so usually a high turnover season as well. You can start contact headhunter/companies after New Year and come to China/HK in Feb once you get some idea who is hiring what.
