I think there is a good chance someone in China will figure out a way to beat google in China. In a way, Baidu has done just that.
So beating the China's google is not really ground breaking.
Here comes the real question: Are you aiming to beat the world's google ? If you can do that, there is something both Chinese and the world will applaud.
BTW...google is not as magic as many people think. It's most popular products are developed outside google.
