That's just a typical Wall Street smoke screen. A couple of days ago, WS also saying the warm winter will cause crude oil to tank below $50.
It is a setup to fool the regular retail investors.
Here is the real reason:
a. US increase strategic oil reserve to 1.4 BB from .7BB. A full 100% increase.
b. Higher oil price in US dollar terms signals higher inflaction
c. Gold is a inflation hedge, therefore it rises today and will be a good trade for the near to mid term. So are Silver and possiblely copper due to tight supply in China
d. 钛 jumped because there is speculation the 2 US aircraft carriers group in mideast will launch a strike against Iran with Israel (not a full scale invasion) around April, 2007. Tie me<x>tal is used in fighter aircraft and other missiles systems.
Why April, because it is between winter and the summer driving season, so oil supply will be plenty to wage war.
Finally due to a, b and d, Gold jumped even further.
It will be fun to watch in the next few month...Fasten your seat belt.
