Can't believe that you guys are even harsher than me on your alma mata. After all, we are just talking about tertiary institutions within China, so you've got to be a bit lenient on the standard.
Even in greater China, there are many universities far superior than any one in China in terms of academic excellence alone. However, many talented Chinese students don't have the access to these better universities, so their only option is one of the so-called top universities in BJ or SH, defacto mediocre diploma mills measured by international standard.
I am glad to see more and more HK universities are offering merit-based scholarships to mainland valedictorians, so those who did well in the Chinese equivalent of SAT can have more options other than the old tired choices of a few universities in China that are mostly run by brain-dead, brown-nosing bureaucrats.
