There are many roles in investment banking, some client facing, some public facing, some are both.
Unless you are a prop trader or work in IT or the back office, your communication style will have a big impact on your career, positively or negatively.
In a client/public facing role, Mr Xie's may have misjudged a couple of things, which cost his job:
1. What kind of standing he has with his boss, his organization and his potential enemy who looks to destroy him
2. The direct communcation style is a double edge sword. Being direct for the wrong reason can be fatal
3. MD or not, Mr. Xie is not the owner. Warren B. can say a lot of things others can't in public. Have anyone tried to fire WB ?
