1.Take some profit, donate it. Short term gain tax is high anyway, why not just donate it and take the tax write off. There is no need to rush, patience and consistency is the key to any disaster recovery, which is the same as any trading. Never let emotion overcomes reason. It’s a long way ahead for recovery. There will be a lot of needs down the road. In general, the money poured in and was wasted a lot at the beginning. However, it dried out quickly. So, we can donate some now in a reasonable portion and keep doing it when new problem surfaces.
2.Don’t short Chinese ADR. First, I’d question your vision. I don’t believe an earthquake can sink whole Chinese market in long term. So far, I did not see much negative effect on Chinese ADRs caused by this disaster. If you don’t believe in Chinese progress, just don’t hold them. Second, some insurance companies, such LFC may take a hit this time. I am not a big fan for patriotism stock, nevertheless, I don’t think pouring fuel on fire is morally decent. Bears can always find some other stock to crack.
